Why are monograms on the left side of sweaters?
Silly question, I guess, but why are monograms usually on the left and not the right side of the sweater or shirt? Is there a historical reason?
I never really noticed it until my grandma taught me some basic hand-embroidery techniques. Now that I monogram my own stuff, I tend to take note of weird patterns like that.
One thing to note: I’m in the Midwestern US and would be interested to know if this pattern is consistent elsewhere.

Badges are always worn on that side and a breast pocket is on that side so that it can be readily accessed by a right-handed person.
Probably a relic of wielding a sword in your right hand so your identity, to be seen, had to be on the left side. Above your heart.
