on a wedding invitation, do you have to put both sets of parents on it?
im getting married in 2 months and i just got my invitations back. i showed my fiance’s family and his grandparents flipped out bc my fiance’s parents names aren’t on them. when i was deciding on what i wanted to invitation to say, it looked like a lot of them now days don’t say both sets of parents. only the brides side. im just wondering bc im pretty sure im right and she is just old and doesn’t know. thanks.
Oh goodness, I just went through this situation with my almost in-laws….
I thought most people just had the bride’s parents listed since they most often host and pay for the wedding, but I have since been informed otherwise – by many people. Had I known the drama it was going to cause, I would have included my groom’s parents in a heartbeat, but I just didn’t even think about it.
Apparently, most people now just do it as a way of recognizing and honoring both parents, regardless of who pays for what. Unless you want to have the invites reprinted, it’s too late now. Just apologize and let his parents know you would never intentionally hurt their feelings by leaving them off, but rather you thought it was common practice for only your parents to be listed. Let them know if you had time to change them you would, but its just not possible at this point. Ask if there is another special way they would like to be honored on the wedding day (or have your fiance ask).
**What we ended up doing (very discretely!) is order another set of invites with both parents listed and then sent those to his side of the family. It saved some money (instead of having them ALL reprinted) and made them feel better, they never knew the difference. It worked out. Best wishes
